What is the Argyle Park Archive?

The Argyle Park Archive aims to preserve all contents of the history of Argyle Park and its spiritual successor, AP2, on one comprehensive site.

What is Argyle Park and AP2?

Put simply, Argyle Park was a shortlived industrial music project created by Klayton and Buka, quickly disbanded after a wave of controversy surrounding its existence. AP2 was a spiritual successor formed by Buka and Klayton's brother, Lvl, which disbanded just as quickly. For their more detailed history, please see the History page.

Why create this archive?

Despite Klayton's brand recognition in the present day thanks to Celldweller and a remaster of Argyle Park's works released in 2016, Argyle Park and AP2 have both continued to be very obscure pieces of Klayton, Buka, and Lvl's history, and as such, information on the internet is largely scattered, inaccurate, and, at worst, lost. This archive aims to preserve as much of this project's history as possible in one convenient place, while also attempting to correct as much of the inaccurate information as possible.

Who runs the archive?

The archive is run by Sardonyx Blackstar, with information received from others around the internet. If you have information that can help make this archive more complete, please DM Sardonyx Blackstar on Twitter.

Do any of Argyle Park or AP2's members have involvement in this?

No. The entire archive is run by a fan, for fans. I am not in any way endorsed by or involved with its members or any of its collaborators. All of their content I am using under Fair Use and this archive is not intended to infringe on any copyright.

Beginnings: Circle of Dust, Brainchild (1991-1993)

Following the disbanding of 80s thrash metal band, Immortal, Klayton signed on to R.E.X. Records in 1991. Here, he formed his first project under a major label, Circle of Dust. The members of Circle of Dust included Klayton himself, alongside Daren 'Klank' Diolosa, John 'og' Lopez, Jason Tilton, Chris Donahue, and Rich 'Wretch' Fantasia as touring members. Releasing their self-titled debut album in 1992, their sound was described as "Post-Pretty Hate Machine industrial pop", paving the initial way to Argyle Park. That same year, Klayton teamed up with R.E.X. president Doug Mann under the pseudonym Tox to form a second project titled Brainchild. Through Brainchild, he released Mindwarp, featuring a more intense sound compared to Circle of Dust and more political lyrical themes. These releases were followed by Metamorphosis in 1993, a compilation album featuring outtakes from Circle of Dust, Mindwarp, and Living Sacrifice's Nonexistent.

Formation: Steve Taylor, The Production of Misguided (1994-1995)

In between working on Circle of Dust, Klayton teamed up with his friend Chris Martello, who was at the time one of the producers for MTV Sports, to form Argyle Park, Klayton's third project under R.E.X. Like with Brainchild, Klayton went under stagenames for the project, that being Dred and Deathwish. Martello in addition went under a stagename, that being Buka.Their first public appearance was in a tribute album dedicated to controversial contemporary Christian music iconoclast Steve Taylor, titled I Predict a Clone: A Steve Taylor Tribute. Their appearance was through a remix/cover of Drive, He Said, the original of which appeared on Taylor's second album, On the Fritz, in 1985. AP's take on the track, Drive, He Said (D-Wee Dub), sampled various lines from Steve Taylor's song, with an added growl screaming "Drive" by who is assumed to be Klayton. Additional collaborators included fellow member Klank, and Phantom, who is credited as "General Chaos". Like the their future album, the remix/cover was recorded in Circle Studio, NY, mixed at Soundscape Studios, NY, and was engineered by Vin Syrek.

Members

ㅤㅤㅤㅤKlayton

Klayton, under the aliases Dred and Deathwish, was one of two main members of Argyle Park along with Buka. Before that, he was the frontrunner if not a major part of several projects, including Immortal, Circle of Dust, and Brainchild. Along with being a frontrunner for Argyle Park, he also acted as a producer for its work along with several other major roles. For AP2, he had a much smaller role, producing the album but only having a hand in two songs. Today, he runs major record label FiXT and continues to make music across several projects, including Celldweller, Circle of Dust, Scandroid, and FreqGen.

Bukaㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ

Buka was the alias used by Christopher Martello, who was at the time a producer for MTV Sports. He remained a frontrunner for both Argyle Park and AP2, determined to keep the project alive with efforts to bring it to new labels, even attempting to start his own label to no avail. Today, he's been executive producer of the HeadCanon Company since 2014, and continues to be in the business looking for new productions to work with.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤLvl

Dan Levler, also known as Lvl, was one of two main members of AP2 along with Argyle Park veteran Buka. He's the younger brother of Klayton, both of them getting started in the music industry at the same time with their shortlived band, Immortal. After Immortal, he had been a major collaborator across several projects and bands, even releasing his own music under different variations of his stage name. Today, he has since retired from music and now serves as president of Suffolk County Association of Municipal Employees, New York's largest independent labor union.
